Norvalspont is a small riverside settlement in the Umsobomvu Local Municipality, within the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality of the Northern Cape. It lies on the southern bank of the Orange River, close to the provincial boundary with the Free State and near the Gariep Dam. A British concentration camp was established near the river late in 1900 to relieve overcrowding elsewhere. The camp cemetery and memorial commemorate those who died there, while remains of defensive positions, the old bridges and the historic hotel preserve further parts of Norvalspont’s wartime story.
