Nababeep is a historic copper-mining town in the Nama Khoi Local Municipality, within the Namakwa District Municipality of the Northern Cape. It lies in northern Namaqualand, approximately 20 to 25 km north-west of Springbok, with local roads connecting it to Okiep, Concordia, Steinkopf and the N7 Cape-to-Namibia corridor. Mining declined during the copper-market slump of 1919 but revived in 1937, after which Nababeep became one of Namaqualand’s principal copper-mining centres. The Nababeep Mining Museum preserves this history through machinery, minerals, photographs and industrial artefacts, including Clara, a narrow-gauge steam locomotive formerly used to transport copper ore.
