Bethal is an agricultural, commercial and mining-service town in the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality of Mpumalanga’s Gert Sibande District. Situated along the N17 between Leandra and Ermelo, it is also connected by regional roads to Secunda, Standerton and Hendrina. Bethal originated on the farm Blesbokspruit and was officially established on 12 October 1880.
