Van Zylsrus is a small Kalahari farming and traveller-service town in the Joe Morolong Local Municipality, within the John Taolo Gaetsewe District Municipality of the Northern Cape. It lies beside the normally dry Kuruman River in the remote north-eastern interior, with regional roads connecting it to Hotazel, Kuruman, Askham and surrounding farms near the Botswana border. Farms were surveyed and allocated in the district during the late 1920s, after which a portion of the property was acquired for the development of the settlement now known as Van Zylsrus.
